PDF417 scanner for iOS and Android coming soon to all Scandit developers!

We’re excited to announce that our Barcode Scanner SDK will soon support PDF417 barcode scanning! Developers will be able to start scanning PDF417 codes with our Barcode Scanner SDK v3.0.0, set to be released on  iOS in late January 2o13, and on Android in early February 2013.

PDF417 barcodes are unique 2D codes which are used in a variety of applications such as transport and inventory management solutions.  Most of you will surely have seen these codes on airline boarding passes and US mail.

PDF417 codes are special in that they can hold upwards of 1.1 kilobytes of machine-readable data, making them much more powerful than other 2D codes. This storage space has been utilized  in cases which require the storage of photographs, fingerprints, signatures, text, numbers or graphics. Similarly to QR codes, as a public-domain format, anyone can freely use PDF417 in their solutions.

By supporting PDF417, we’ve opened up a whole new range of possibilities for our developers. We’ll be adding the feature to our Enterprise Premium plan by the end of the month, so keep an eye on our blog for the public release along with a video of our PDF417 scanner in action!
