We just released the latest version of our Barcode Scanner SDK for iOS, Android, Windows and other supported platforms. This update includes significant improvements to our scanning capabilities and user experience. We recommend that you upgrade soon to take advantage of our increased performance and feature set. Here are new features that Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK version 4.14 has to offer:

Double the Frame Rate of Blurry Barcode Decoder

Our scan speed has been improved by doubling the frame rate of our blurry decoder engine. This is particularly important and noticeable in fast or high scan volume use cases with a lot of barcode and scanner movement.

20% Increase in Battery Life Time with Scandit Case Due to SDK Optimization

Thanks to optimizations in the camera control module, scanning with our latest SDK and hardware case now requires 20% less power than with earlier Barcode Scanner SDK versions. With the SDK 4.14 Scan Case API, Scandit Case users benefit from a 20% longer battery life time (run time on a full charge), according to our latest tests.

Support for new Symbologies

With this release we are adding support for MicroPDF417 and GS1 Composite Codes. A GS1 Composite Code combines a 1D code and a 2D code stacked on top. These codes are gaining popularity in areas where product traceability is becoming more and more important, as in the healthcare and medical fields. The code is used to add serial information to a box of medications for example, where the 1D code (e.g. a UPC code) identifies the medication and the 2D code (PDF417 or MicroPDF417) encodes information specific to this instance of the product, e.g. expiration date, lot number or other product information mandated by the law.

MicroPDF417 is a 2D symbology, derived from the larger PDF417 that encodes up to 150 bytes. It is designed for applications requiring improved area efficiency, and is used in Composite Codes, as described above.
