French app developer powers mobile checkout in consumer app with Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK

Paris, France and Zurich, Switzerland – October 2, 2018 – Scandit, the leading enterprise technology platform for mobile computer vision, barcode scanning, and augmented reality, has enabled mobile app developer NEOS to feature enterprise-grade self-checkout in its new mobile shopping app.

The NEOS mobile shopping app is free and runs on both Android and iOS devices. It enables participating retailers to offer customers a self-scanning shopping experience in their brick-and-mortar stores. After downloading the NEOS app, customers simply enter the store and use their smartphones to connect to in-store WiFi. Using the camera built into their smart device, consumers scan the loyalty card furnished by the retailer, then scan items they want to purchase as they shop and put them in their basket.

When they have completed their shopping, customers tap a button to pay directly from the NEOS app, and payment is made using a preregistered debit or credit card and they can then simply leave the store. Retailers require no other checkout verification, which allows customers to avoid queuing in long lines at a checkout kiosk. Customers can view their receipt for purchases by scanning their loyalty card.

The Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK integrated in the NEOS shopping app provides robust barcode scanning functionality that enables customers to use the built-in cameras on their smart devices to capture product barcodes on items and add them to their physical and virtual shopping cart.

NEOS selected the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK over several open source scanning options because Scandit technology yielded very few false positive barcode scans. Open source software routinely scanned barcodes incorrectly, leading to inefficiency and customer confusion.

“Our mission at NEOS is to remove as much friction from the in-store shopping experience as possible,” said Gregoire Genest, founder of NEOS. “Integrating the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK into our mobile shopping app enables us to provide a truly seamless shopping experience that replaces waiting in long lines with instant self-checkout. Customers have provided positive feedback on no longer having to wait in long lines and are satisfied with the scanning experience.”

NEOS is considering expanding its deployment of Scandit mobile computer vision technology by powering an upcoming Web-based version of its mobile shopping app with Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK for the Web, which allows developers to add enterprise-grade barcode scanning to a web application.

“Scandit’s mission is to blend the digital and physical worlds for the in-store shopper,” said Samuel Mueller, CEO and co-founder of Scandit. “Integrating the Barcode Scanner SDK into the NEOS mobile shopping app and making self-checkout fast and easy is critical to achieving this. We are proud to be powering the seamless mobile self-scanning shopping experience provided by NEOS and look forward to working with them on other projects in the future.”
