Add Barcode Scanning to a Website

The newly-released Scandit SDK for the Web version 4.5.1 features performance improvements and a critical update to address a bug in Safari shipped with iOS 13.

Critical iOS 13 Issue with Web SDK 4.3.0 and older

iOS 13 ships with an update to Safari that causes the browser to crash on selected iOS devices when using the Web SDK versions 4.3.0 and older. We introduced a workaround in version 4.4.0 of the Scandit SDK for the Web to avoid these crashes. If you are using a Web SDK version older than 4.4.0, we encourage you to update as soon as possible by deploying the latest SDK for the Web release.

For more details, read the release notes. If you are updating from a version older than 4.0.0, please have a look at our migration guide.

Here are some other improvements in recent releases:

Faster camera access and processing time – We are now up to twice as fast to access the camera and up to 25% faster in reading barcodes.

Memory usage improvements – The Web SDK now also provides significant improvements in memory usage on Firefox and Safari. This enables the app to operate faster and perform better.

Additional Features – The updates also include improved Datamatrix and PDF 417 decoding and parser support for NHS extension and Swiss Driver’s License.
