In a relatively short amount of time, smartphones and tablets have become an integral part of many of our lives. A recent article by Shop.org takes a look at how this has affected shopping behavior, and affirms that mobile shopping on both smartphones and tablets is rapidly growing.
The article highlights Goldman Sachs predictions that smartphone-based retail sales will more than double from $70 billion this year to $173 billion by 2018, and tablet-based sales will more than triple from $130 billion this year to $453 billion in 2018.
Check out some of the stats:
– Among U.S. smartphone users, approximately half have consulted their phones to find store information such as location and hours.
– Half as many again tap their smartphone when they’re browsing or looking for a product or service.
– 37 percent of 18-to-34-year-olds have actually purchased a product on their smartphone, so have 29 percent of smartphone users 35-54 and 14 percent of those over 55.
As shopping becomes increasingly mobile, retailers will have to adapt to these trends in order to compete. There has never been a more clear time to invest in mobile shopping. The next generation of mobile shopping apps will continue to make it easier for consumers to directly interact with products in their physical environments, through smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. Our Barcode Scanner SDK facilitates this interaction by enabling barcode scanning directly through the device camera. Check out the video to get a sense of the performance:
