The Evolution of Data Capture in the Enterprise

Bringing Next Generation Barcode Scanning Technology to the Supply Chain

The use of barcodes throughout supply chains is nothing new. Retail, manufacturing and logistics operations have relied on barcodes to conduct business for more than 50 years. While barcodes have changed very little in that time, the technology used to capture them has dramatically transformed over the years, from bulky, stationary single-solution scanners (barcode readers) to the high-performance software solutions on smart devices available today.

The trends in mobile software and hardware that continue to increase efficiency and lower costs across supply chains, were discussed in this 2016 webinar by Scandit CEO, Samuel Mueller and Richa Gupta, Director AutoID and Data Capture at VDC Research. Richa’s research into how the automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) industry was expanding to achieve enterprise-grade scanning performance with software on smart devices, is relevant today as organisations continue with digital transformation.
