Barcodes on Buses: Austin Launches New Transit App

A new app is bringing barcodes to buses in Central Texas, providing a smartphone-powered e-ticket alternative for local commuters.

The CapMetro app was created Captial Metro, the public transportation provider for Central Texas.  The city of Austin was motivated to rejuvenate their transit industry and reduce their paper usage, which is why they developed the CapMetro app. With the app commuters can now validate bus tickets by simply pulling up a QR code on their smartphone device.

The app has launched just in time in time for SXSW and the hordes of tech enthusiasts who are sure to appreciate this smartphone-powered transit option.
