scanning barcode from an HDD

We just released the latest version of our Barcode Scanner SDK for iOS, Android and our newly available version for Windows 8.1. This includes significant improvements to our scanning capabilities and user experience. Given the broad range of improvements made to version 4.8 on both iOS and Android, we recommend that you upgrade soon to take advantage of our increased performance and feature set (see release notes for details). Here are the new features that Barcode Scanner SDK version 4.8 has to offer.

Laser UI for iOS and Android

Starting with release 4.8, Scandit offers an alternative, new scan user interface for iOS and Android that mimics the laser of a legacy barcode scanner. Our new user interface is suited for applications that predominantly scan 1D barcodes, where the developer wants to highlight the location where the 1D codes are decoded in the camera image.

On iOS the laser UI can be activated by setting the guiStyle property of SBSOverlayController to SBSGuiStyleLaser. On Android, the laser UI can be activated by calling setGuiStyle(ScanditSDKOverlay.GUI_STYLE_LASER) on the ScanditSDKOverlay. As before, the actual scan area in which barcodes are decoded needs to be set in the SBSScanSettings class on iOS, and ScanditSDKScanSettings on Android. The white viewfinder rectangle that has been the scan user interface for previous generations of the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK remains the default user interface.

Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK for Windows 8.1 (arm/x86)

Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK is now also available for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 supporting both Windows 8.1 x86 tablets and Windows 8.1 Phone devices with ARM CPUs. The scanning performance of the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK for Windows 8.1 provides the same unique enterprise-grade barcode scanning performance of our leading iOS and Android SDKs.

On Windows 8.1 tablets, the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK provides barcode scanning performance equivalent to a peripheral barcode scanner (USB or Bluetooth) without the need to purchase and manage an additional piece of hardware. Our Barcode Scanner SDK turns Windows 8.1 tablets into sleek mPOS systems or convenient tools in asset management, field management and logistics applications. Due to our blurry barcode decoding approach, the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK works with the front and back-facing camera of Windows 8.1 tablets.

The Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK for Windows 8.1/Windows Phone 8.1 ships with a sample application in source code. Sign up for a test version if you are interested in trying it out. You can check out the performance of Scandit’s Barcode Scanner SDK for Windows 8.1 on a Dell Venue Pro 11 (5130) tablet in our latest video below.
