In a new episode of the video blog “The Startup Show,” Scandit CEO and co-founder Samuel Mueller describes how Scandit is using mobile data capture to transform common supply chain workflows.

In the video, which can be viewed below, Mueller explains how Scandit leverages the cameras found in smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other devices such as drones to enable direct interaction with products. Scandit technology enables the cameras on these devices to scan barcodes and other product data.

“Through our platform, we provide the components, tools, and the cloud services to help retailers, logistics companies, and manufacturers rapidly build, deploy and manage mobile data capture applications for smartphones, tablets and wearables,” said Mueller.

As a result, retailers and other organizations can replace traditional scanning devices used for capturing data in workflows such as inventory management, restocking, shipping and receiving, and in-store deliveries.

Retailers can also provide consumers with free smartphone apps that allow them to scan items as they shop to create virtual shopping lists. The customers then click a button when they are done to automatically purchase the scanned items. International grocers including Coop Switzerland and Ahold currently offer this type of app using Scandit scanning solutions.

Other major Scandit retail clients include Saks Fifth Avenue and Macys. Given Scandit’s impressive capabilities and client list, it is perhaps no surprise the company recently closed a $7.5 million Series A round of funding with London-based global venture capital firm Atomico.

“You need to have evolved the company sufficiently far and show sufficient traction,” said Muller. “Ideally you have IP as well, like we have.”
