Scandit-Powered Mobile App Enables Noel Leeming to Give Shoppers Real-Time Stock and Inventory Insights

New Zealand’s leading consumer electronics and appliance retailer uses mobile computer vision to elevate in-store customer experiences

Zurich, Switzerland and Auckland, New Zealand – December 4, 2018 – Scandit, the leading enterprise technology platform for mobile computer vision, barcode scanning, and augmented reality, is powering a mobile scanning app known as SmartPad that enables Noel Leeming store team members to give real-time stock checks and product price information to customers. Noel Leeming store team members are leveraging more than 1,000 iOS and 1,000 Android smartphones across all of the retailer’s 74 stores to streamline the clienteling process for busy shoppers.

If a customer wants to know how much stock of a particular item is in the store or confirm a price, the team member simply scans the product barcode and instantly obtains the information. Noel Leeming integrated the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK into its custom-built SmartPad mobile app in 2017.

The retailer selected Scandit to provide the barcode scanning engine for SmartPad based on its high degree of speed and scan accuracy, as well as Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK’s ability to effectively read the wide range of barcodes associated with its diverse product assortment. Furthermore, Noel Leeming is able to deploy SmartPad on associates’ own smartphones as part of a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategy, creating a significant cost savings compared to using dedicated scanning hardware.

“The exceptional performance of Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK makes it easy for our team members to scan items to get product information and instant access to stock and price data using the SmartPad mobile app,” said Tim Edwards, Chief Executive of Noel Leeming. “Team members are able to use time with customers more effectively and build on their reputation as passionate experts. The SmartPad app frees them up to truly engage customers and provide assistance to enhance the overall customer experience and improve customer loyalty and satisfaction.”

“At Scandit, one of our primary goals is to enable retailers to enhance the physical shopping experience with digital features that help customers make more informed buying decisions,” said Samuel Mueller, CEO and co-founder of Scandit. “Bringing data capture functionality to the SmartPad mobile app makes it easier for Noel Leeming team members to elevate the in-store customer experience. Customers today expect retail staff to have instant access to product data and inventory information. As New Zealand’s premier consumer electronics and appliance retailer, Noel Leeming has ensured they have the technology to match these expectations. We are excited to support their smart device-based clienteling efforts with mobile computer vision technology.”
