Barcodes Take Art to the Next Level

Today we wanted to share the work of Scott Blake, an artist who specializes in working with barcodes.

Much of Scott’s work comprises large scale portraits of famous people composed entirely out of barcodes. His most famous piece is the “Barcode Jesus,” with other prominent pieces including portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Oprah Winfrey. What’s more is that many of these art pieces are interactive, where scanning any barcode that is part of the piece will trigger some relevant content. For instance, when you scan a barcode on his Marilyn Monroe piece, a clip from a Marilyn Monroe movie is played on the nearby television. Here’s a quick look at Scott’s portfolio:
