What can these wearable devices do for businesses, and how will they be used to advance business processes?
A recent report from Accenture provides insight into the implications of wearables at work, and we’re excited to share some of the findings. Accenture found that wearables help improve employee efficiency, enhance training and ongoing communication, reduce nonproductive time and rework, shrink decision time frames, minimize exposure to hazardous conditions and more. Furthermore, they found applicable use cases where wearable technology improved processes across vertical markets. We’ve highlighted some of the businesses processes that can be transformed by wearable devices in the retail, manufacturing and logistics industries below. We have also expanded our technology to bring high-performance barcode scanning to Google Glass and the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Floor Salespeople– Enable a quick visual reference using a smart watch or smart glasses to convey how retail displays should be arranged, provide updated instructions regarding tasks (e.g., stock items, switch signs) and the ability to share finished work with a remote supervisor. Act as a guide for a customer to any specific section or shelf within a store, as well as how to operate a particular product.
Retail Managers– Provide direct and efficient communication without intruding on or hindering employees’ tasks (e.g., folding clothes, stocking shelves) by sending messages to be read on a smart watch.
Floor Technicians– Smart watches can provide machine tool information: power status, running processes/programs, alarms, messages and more. Allow technicians to view and stream real-time video footage of machines to experts, communicate with engineers, and record and share notes using smart glasses.
Process Engineers– Enable remote troubleshooting and instruction for urgent needs on the fly with smart glasses. Provide ability to process recipes and make specialty maintenance repairs through technicians and collaboration with others.
Delivery and Logistics:
Package Deliverers– Scan packages, confirm delivery information and update shipping status using voice, leaving hands free to carry packages with smart glasses.
Warehouse Staff– Using smart glasses, keep hands free while using equipment, inventory and sorting packages, picking, and updating shipping status.
