Scandit’s Product Database provides massive amount of Grocery Product Data for German-speaking Europe

In a world of mobile apps, linking grocery product data and barcodes makes sense, and we’re going to tell you why.

There are many different scenarios that call for grocery-centric product data in apps. And one of the easiest ways to deliver this data to users is by allowing them to scan a product’s barcode. Some common use cases are:

  • Dieting Apps which lookup nutritional facts
  • Shopping or list-making apps which display nutritional facts, pricing, and availability information
  • Apps which provide allergen or health or safety information about certain products
  • Recipe apps that find uses for products at home or in a store
  • Price comparison apps
  • Shopping game apps which reward users to interacting with products (like shopkick!)

And the list goes on and on…

A couple months ago we released our Product API, which provides a convenient way for app developers to access our product database featuring over 25 million UPC/EAN-based product entries. At the basic level we provide UPC/EAN numbers and product names, and at the premium level there is a large variety of specialized data available including pictures, categories, descriptions and more. Below we list the attributes for a specialized subset of product data we have for 10.4 million products in German-speaking European countries:
