Today we are excited to announce the production release of the Scandit Barcode Scanner and OCR SDK 6.1, the first point release since the initial release of 6.0.
As you might know, 6.0 improved the developer experience with a new API, better documentation and a lot more code samples. With 6.1, there are many new things, but there are a few features we want to point out specifically:
Barcode scanning improvements
We have further improved our DataMatrix decoder performance in the presence of rotations and damaged calibration patterns. We have also improved the highlighting accuracy for 1D barcodes. 6.1 also features enhancements to the camera control to allow for a more granular position of the autofocus target area.
Revised Cordova/Phonegap Plugin now available in Beta
With the new 6.x major release, we are redoing all of our plugins to provide you with an improved API and new features. 6.1 brings the first preview of this effort with the beta release of our new Cordova plugin. The camera preview now moves and resizes automatically within your HTML app. This eliminates the need for you as a developer to worry about how to place the preview. Please note that we will keep the new Cordova Plugin in Beta until the subsequent 6.2 release.
OCR support and improved OCR performance vs. 5.x
6.0 did not yet have a text recognition API and 6.1 changes this. We also improved the overall recognition performance of our OCR engine compared to 5.x. Text scanning now works faster and is more robust. If you want to try it out for a specific application, we would recommend that you reach out to us.
New Parser features
Our parser for barcodes and machine readable zones is now available for customers using the Barcode Scanner and OCR SDK 6.x.
Since adding VIN numbers, GS1 NHS extensions and the Swiss Drivers License MRZ in 5.12, we now also have added support for the PDF417 barcode on driver’s licenses in British Columbia which do not follow the AAMVA standard. Read up on how to get started with the parser on iOS and Android.
